A terrifying moment can happen in seconds when a snake wraps itself around a dog. Experts say the most important thing is to stay calm and avoid panicking, as sudden movements may make the snake tighten its grip. If the snake is constricting the dog, carefully try to loosen it starting from the tail using a long object like a stick, while keeping a safe distance from the snake’s head to avoid bites.
Once the dog is free, owners should immediately check for injuries such as swelling, bite marks, bleeding, or trouble breathing. Even non-venomous snakes can cause serious harm through constriction. Keeping the dog calm and getting emergency veterinary care as quickly as possible can greatly improve the chances of recovery after the attack.
Animal safety experts also recommend preventing snake encounters before they happen. Keeping yards clean, removing hiding spots, and avoiding tall grass can reduce the risk of snakes entering areas where pets play.
